Forrie bow out after great game

Forrie fall at the final hurdle

Forrestfield United development squad have fallen at the last hurdle in the State League Reserves Cup Semi-Final, going down 2-1 to Balcatta at the Finance 365 Stadium on Monday afternoon.

They led at the break with Ben Fraser scoring, but two quick goals just after half time from Brendan Borzecki but Balcatta in front, and despite having most of the possession, James Coffey’s side couldn’t find the equaliser and they bowed out.

I thought we dominated the game, we played some good football and worked extremely hard for each other, but it wasn’t to be today,” Coffey said.

The lads are young and will learn from that and few minutes lapse of concentration cost us just after half time. But I was really pleased the way the lads fought back well after conceding the two goals, and we had them on the back foot, and they were using the long ball to get through us.

We were pushing men forward late to find the equaliser we got caught out again, so yes disappointed with the result, we can take a great deal from the performance.”

Forrie dominated the first half but only had Fraser’s goal to show for it. A throw in from the right was flicked on by Josh Barnes, and Fraser turned and ran across the top of the penalty area, easing past his marker, before firing across Luke Hutchinson and into the bottom corner of the net.

Balcatta made a perfect start to the second half, and Borzecki headed home from a corner, and the youngster who made his first team NPL debut on the weekend, added a second moments later finishing clinically past Ben Parry.

It was a huge blow for Forrie, but they went in search of the equaliser, Josh Kotio’s long-range shot was straight at Hutchinson, while Josh Barnes’ free kick was headed inches over by Hayden Dodgson.

It looked like they had found the equaliser seven minutes from time, Barnes’ free kick picked out Dodgson again his header was well saved by Hutchinson, the rebound hitting a Balcatta player and going into the goal, but the flag was up for offside, much to the frustration of the Coaches and players.

With Forrie pushing players forward looking for the equaliser they were caught out at the back in the final minute, Ismael Bangura finishing from the half way line, his chip catching out Parry to give them a 3-1 victory.
