Osborne delighted with result

Forrestfield United promotion to the PS4 NPLWA was a great reward for coach Rod Banjac and his players, but all the work President Andy Osborne and his hard working committee have put in off the pitch has also brought its rewards.

Osborne was delighted with the result, but he said he couldn’t watch the game during the first half as the tension of the occasion hit him. “I had to leave and walk around the fields at the back of the ground, I’ve never felt so tense in all my time at the club,” he said.

“But I’m glad we pulled it off, and many people don’t know what was hanging on today’s result, it was a big day for our juniors after Football West knocked back the recommendations to expand the Junior NPL, and this was the only way we could get our juniors in there.

“Our juniors are ready for the NPL, and unfortunately the news came out on Monday, and the first team players knew that and that heaped so much more pressure on their shoulders, but they showed great composure to hold on in the first half and ran the game out well, it’s a fantastic day for our club.”

Osborne said it was a great second half performance and he said all the hard work starts now as they look to make an impact in the NPL.

“I don’t know what Rod said at half time, but it worked, and they came out a different side after half time, and we dominated and closed out the game, which is fantastic,” he said.

“I want Rod to take a few weeks off to be with his family, before he starts to focus on next season, but I know he won’t do this, he and his coaching staff will start to plan right away. Mine and the committees job starts right now, as well, there is lots to do to get ready for next season, we can’t wait.”
