Forrie bow out of Night Series
Forrestfield United NPL-WA Night Series campaign came to an end on Friday evening, after a 5-1 defeat against a slick Floreat Athena at Dalmatinac Park.

First half goals to Ludovic Boi, Calvin Whitney and Keylun Pollard put Floreat in control, before Zelfy Nazary made it 4-0 on the hour.

Forrie pulled one back nine minutes from time, Tom Jebb headed from close range from a Callum Dobbs free kick. But Floreat hit back moments later to add a fifth Carlo Coelho on target.

Head Coach Rod Banjac said his side were taught a good lesson tonight about playing in the NPL. “We conceded a couple of early goals and never really recovered,” he said.

“We learnt a valuable lesson tonight, you make a mistake in this league and you will be punished.”

Banjac said they move on and is well aware they have some work to do as they prepare for the season opener.
“We are the ‘New kids on the block’ and we are well aware we have a great deal of work ahead of us,” he said.

“But the Coaching staff and I believe our squad will not let us or the club down and are confident we can compete in the NPL-WA,” he explained.

“We still have a number of players to come into the squad, but we’re happy where we are at the moment.

“So we move on and continue our pre-season, the players will now get back to training as we prepare for the NPL-WA opener on February 23.”

Winger Rhys Loxley echoed the coaches’ words, and said they will be working hard for the season opener.

“I think last night’s game was a big eye opener for the squad. Although we played some nice football at times we made far too many costly mistakes and were punished for them,” he said.

“We have a young and energetic squad, though so for us it’s about constantly learning and adapting to the pace and mentality of the NPL.

“Our focus has always been preparing for Round One of the NPL competition, so once again we will hit the training ground even harder next week and try to rectify those mistakes and focus on the next couple of weeks.”
