Cockburn City v FUSC – Match Preview

Forrie hit the road this weekend when we travel to Dalmatinac Park on Saturday afternoon to take on second placed Cockburn City (kick off 3pm)

Both sides need the points at opposite ends of the table. Cockburn need to bounce back from defeat at Perth last game, while Forrie produced the comeback of the season to draw 4-4 with Joondalup United, after being 1-4 down. The bottom of the table is tight, and we only sit one point out of the relegation zone, so Saturday’s game is huge.

Looking back to the Joondalup game Forrie defender Jamie Street said how they didn’t win that game is amazing but they didn’t have the rub of the green on the day. “The game should have been done and dusted before half time but that’s football, it’s about how many you score not how many you create,” he said.

“There was an incredible atmosphere that night and regardless of the result we showed balls, and fight and these two things will be important in the fight for staying up.”

Street said Cockburn are a good side and will be a stern test for them, but he said they are up for the challenge. “Whether your top of the league or bottom, you turn up to win a game of football, we have a team full of quality and we just need to show this week in and week out for the rest of the season to give ourselves the best opportunity to stay in the NPL, we won’t be going down without a fight that’s for sure,” he explained.

“The boys are focused and enjoying training, with a weekend off we’ve jumped straight back into things and our sights are on all three points at Cockburn.

“It’s always a difficult place to go to, big pitch, strong side but we welcome any challenge, and this is just another game in the survival battle for us, they are safe but challenging for top four, it’ll be a great game, not sure it’ll be as entertain for the neutrals as the Joondalup one but still a good one to watch.”
