July 7, 2018
Forrestfield United will be looking to bounce back from last week’s 1-3 defeat against Perth SC when they host Joondalup United at the Wildlife Safari Stadium at Hartfield Park on Saturday evening in Week 20 of the NPL-WA.
Defeat last week against Perth dropped Forrie into the relegation zone and they will be looking to turn there recent form around on Saturday. A ten man Joondalup were well beaten at Cockburn last week, and with only four points this season time is running out for Nick Jennings side, but knowing the coach he will have his side fighting to the end.
On the other hand Forrestfield have struggled without influencial coach Rod Banjac in the dug out, but he returns this week from suspension. Watching from the stands against Perth he was pleased the way his side battled against a good Perth side.
“I was very happy with the performance as well as the commitment by the whole team but disappointed with the manner we conceded the goals,” he said. “It was a game of high intensity where we dominated for long periods while creating some decent chances. But we will move on from here knowing that we are comfortable mixing it with the best.
Banjac will get Jamie Street and Thomas Southgate back for this one and he said they have many battles against Joondalup in the past, and he is expecting another one on Saturday. “This week I’m back in the dugout after a lengthy suspension which certainly took its toll where we lost all four games following a fantastic start to second half of the season. But we are a close-knit club and will pull out of this setback much stronger and a lot wiser,” he explained.
“Joondalup is a club I have a lot of respect for, but once that whistle blows and white line fever takes over it will be reminiscent of the good old days when we were battling for titles in the state league. For the first time this season we will be almost at full strength as we welcome back Jammie (Street) and Thomas (Southgate) from a weeks suspension.”
