Match Report – Women’s Division 2
April 12, 2019
Last Sunday the FUSC Division 2 Women’s team played their first league match against Leeming Strikers.
Initially the team had a strong line up set for Sunday however due to unforeseen circumstances they ended up with only 10 players on the park.
Even with only 10 players, the team started off strong. Jazmine Howdan scored the first goal for the team with a beautiful strike landing in the top left corner of the net. From here the game pace picked up and it wasn’t long before Forrestfield had a second goal. This made it 2-4 at half time.
Starting the second half behind by 2, the team took to the field with a reshuffled line up hoping to take the opposition by surprise.
Unfortunately, early into the second half Howdan had to retire from the game due to injury leaving the team down another player.
With only 9 now on the pitch, the team regrouped and was able to rally together and hold their own before defender, Tadiwa Kapatika intercepted a strike on goals unfortunately coming out second best, having to take to the bench for a short break.
The team was reshuffled once again, moving new player Kelsey O’Connor from the back line to support the attacking players. Connor did not waste this opportunity to play up front and persisted in pushing the opposition further back into their own half eventually scoring Forrestfield’s 3rd goal.
Although played well, the odds were stacked against the FUSCW team and the final score saw a loss for Forrestfield 7-3.
Head Coach Tony Down had positive comments about the result. “Although we didn’t get the outcome we were hoping for, the team played well under the circumstances and it gave the team an opportunity to learn to adapt to difficult situations. We look forward to playing Leeming again with a full team in the next round.”
Be sure to come down and cheer them on.
