Youth Report Under 12 Blue’s

On a beautiful, warm Sunday, in what could only be described as perfect conditions for football, Forrrie Under 12’s Blue hosted Cockburn City. Following some big matches in the past few weeks, including games against Perth Glory, ECU Joondalup, Melville and Perth, team was looking to play their usual smart, slick and entertaining brand of football.

The team was up and going early, getting through a familiar warm-up, they have been doing for the past 3 seasons.

The game started at frantic pace. With injured Zane watching from sidelines, Forrie got on top early. Some strong running by Hayden and Ben down the wings, hard tackling and quality passing by Luka and Jensen in the middle, resulted in early goals to Josh, Hayden and Ben. Couple of good moves down the left, and nice exchanges between Ethan and Zach, were not rewarded by goals, but ensured that Forrie was on top early. Cockburn, however, weren’t there just to make numbers, and following some silky passing through the middle of the ground, also managed to find the back of the net couple of times before the half time.

Following a usual rev-up from the coach at half time (some lollies helped), Forrie returned strongly. Sound defending by Sophia and Kobey, solid goal keeping by Will, strong running and pressuring from Dayne and Romeo, resulted in further goals to Josh, Dayne and Hayden. Strong pressure from Cockburn meant that they got a goal back in no time. The loudest cheer of the match was reserved for the team’s two defensive rocks, Sophia and Kobey, who had a run up front, and both got on the scorecard before the end of the game.

Overall, while there is still some room for improvement according to the coach, team played well and enjoyed themselves. For his hard running, tackling and all-round strong effort, including a goal, Dayne was rewarded with the Player of the Match. U12’s Blue will continue to face some strong opposition in coming weeks, with Olympic Kingsway away next Sunday.
