Youth NPL report

2019 has been a successful year so far for the FUSC Junior NPL teams. Our main aim at the beginning of this season was to consolidate and improve on our first year of NPL junior football. The players and teams and had the opportunity to test themselves against some of the best talent in their respective age groups and stood up to the challenge on numerous occasions.

With Stage One over, our four NPL teams performed extremely well to all qualify for Division 3 in their respective age groups and whilst development of the players is more important than the result, it is encouraging to see some of our teams earn some credible results against top opposition. This is a testament to our coaches Joshua Appleby (Under 13’s), Matias Cespedes (Under 14’s), Carlos Echeveria (Under 15’s) and Audie Collis (Under 16’s) who have put an incredible amount of time and effort towards developing the next generation of Forrestfield United talent.

Speaking of talent, we have been able to reward young prospects such as Nicolas Echeveria, Vlad Puja and Max Robinson with opportunities to play at a higher level as they continue to display encouraging signs of potential as young footballers. These players have excelled in their respective age groups and have consistently performed when given the opportunity to play in the year group above.

2019 has seen a number of our junior NPL players transition to our Men’s State League sides, with a total of 11 players representing our Under 18s State League side this season. Most notably, 16-year old Christian Vicencio has established himself as the first choice Under 18’s goalkeeper and has even appeared for the State League Reserves team on numerous occasions this season. For a young goalkeeper, Christian has displayed maturity and confidence beyond his years and with hard work and dedication, could become a top player in the future.

As the season draws to a close, we hope to finish the season in a really good position to put us in good stead moving forward into 2020 and onwards.
